Tasks for Software Engineers job in Australia –
- System program research, consulting, analysis, and evaluation
- Identifying technological limitations and deficiencies in existing systems, as well as the processes, procedures, and methods associated with them
- Testing, debugging, diagnosing, and correcting errors and faults in an application programming language in accordance with established testing protocols, guidelines, and quality standards to ensure that programs and applications perform to specification
- Writing and maintaining program code in accordance with quality accredited standards to meet system requirements, system designs, and technical specifications
- Technical program development, end-user documentation, and operational procedures must be written, updated, and maintained
- Giving advice, direction, and expertise in the development of proposals and strategies for software design activities such as financial evaluation and costings for recommending software purchases and upgrades
Skill Level –
The majority of occupations in this unit group require a level of skill equivalent to a bachelor’s degree or higher. For the formal qualification, at least five years of relevant experience and/or relevant vendor certification may be substituted. Relevant experience and/or on-the-job training may be required in addition to the formal qualification in some cases (ANZSCO Skill Level 1).

The required test scores have been increased for each English language test to –
- IELTS- Overall band score of at least 5.0 with a score of at least 5 in each of the test components.
- OET- Score of at least ‘B‘ in each of the four components
- TOEFL- iBT total score of at least 35 with a score of at least 4 for each of the test components of listening and reading, and a score of at least 14 for each of the test components of speaking and writing
- PTE- Academic overall test score of at least 36 with a score of at least 36 in each of the test components
- CAE- Overall test score of at least 154 with a score of at least 154 in each of the test components.
Exemptions from English language proficiency
➔ The applicants must have achieved the test results required in the approved test on the test day in a single attempt at the test
➔ The test must not be more than 3 years old on the day on which the applicant provided the evidence of the test
Applicants do not need to demonstrate your English language proficiency if they fall into one of the following categories of exempted persons:
